Ellen: Hi, and welcome to Books Open Doors Insights from now on when I do a training, it will just be called Books Open Doors Insights. So, I just want to mention that and before we get started that we were off last week because we were moving, but now we’re back.
So today I want to talk about American idol. For those of you who don’t know me. I’m a Grammy-nominated songwriter and music is one of my passions along with my book writing and book coaching, So, we’re always watching The Voice, American Idol, Songland, all of the songwriting and vocal performances, and I want to share my observations because I find it really interesting-what the parallels are between American Idol and being an online business person or any business person. So, that’s what I’m going to share with you today.
So, American Idol is getting one step closer to picking this season’s Idol, it’s really getting close to the end, and the competition is fierce. I love this show and I find the process fascinating watching artists develop before our eyes throughout the season.
And I’m always looking to test myself and identify my top picks and see how well I do. But what I’ve observed is it’s not just about raw talent, it’s also about who has the grit, the desire, and the courage to keep showing up and going for it. It’s about believing in yourself and believing you deserve to be there. It’s also about your story, likability and authenticity.
Does that sound familiar?
It should because It’s no different than marketing in any business (including your authoring business).
And it’s especially interesting to me to watch the ones who say, they were told they’d never amount to anything. Some buckle under because they buy into what they were told and others succeed because their mindset is one of “I’ll show you.” And they’ll do it despite what they were told.
And I can really relate to that because that’s what propelled me to stick with it and get my Grammy nomination.
I had a songwriting teacher who told me I’d never make it in the music business.
But, I showed him!
So, if you were told you can do anything you want in life, congratulations! You’re halfway there. But if you weren’t, you’ve got to dig deep to succeed anyway.
So, the question I want to leave you with today on this podcast is Do you have what it takes?
